The cloud on my server is ready. Time to set up my smartphone to interact with it. You can use Nextcloud with any smartphone.
If you follow my guide, it makes more sense to first install a custom rom, without Google Play Services. But it is absolutely not necessary to do this.
To synchronize my phone with my cloud there are, depending on what I want to sync, some apps needed.
- Nextcloud
- DAVx5 (optional)
- Tasks (optional)
- Notes (optional)
Nextcloud
Nextcloud on the phone is needed to get access to the cloud and all the data in it. In the app’s settings there is an automatic upload function to upload photos and videos after they got created.
Since many years there should be a full 2-way-sync feature, but sadly it is not fully implemented yet (June 2026). But the auto upload feature works pretty good.
Contacts
To sync my contacts and calendar I use DAVx5. This app allows you to save calendar and contacts on Nextcloud and to update it in both directions.
Tasks & Notes
Additionally I want to have my notes and to do lists synced. Nextcloud Notes directly communicates with Nextcloud. The Tasks app communicates via DAVx5.
